Location. The historic Excelsior Hotel Ernst is located opposite the famous Gothic cathedral in Cologne, Germany. The Rhine Promenade is 500 metres away, and the train station is within 200 metres. Cologne-Bonn Konrad Airport (CGN) is 12 kilometres from the hotel.
Hotel Features. Built in 1863, the elegant Excelsior Hotel Ernst features an imposing stone facade, a spacious pillared lobby and old-world interiors dotted with chandeliers and antique furniture. Staff at the 24- hour front desk can help with trips to Cologne attractions like the Cologne Philharmonic Hall or the famous Hohe Strasse shopping street, both less than 200 metres away.

The hotel serves complimentary breakfast. The traditional wood-panelled Hanse Stube offers traditional European dishes with a modern twist. Asian cuisine is on the menu at the contemporary low-lit Taku restaurant where design touches include an aquarium. There's a comfortable wood-panelled piano bar, and room service is available 24 hours.

From Cologne-Bonn Konrad Airport (CGN):
 Distance to Excelsior Hotel Ernst is 12 kilometres, approximately 20 minutes' drive. 

Getting there.  Guests can arrange to be picked up by limousine or by van, for an extra fee and by prior arrangement with the hotel. High-speed trains and the regional S-Bahn run between the airport railway station and Cologne Hauptbahnhof (central station) every 30 minutes. The fare for a single ticket is 2.10 EUR, and the journey time is 18 minutes. The number 170 bus runs to the Hauptbahnhof and Cologne city centre five times an hour. The fare is 5 EUR for a single ticket. Taxis wait outside Terminals 1 and 2, and cost about 25 EUR to central Cologne and 40 EUR to Bonn. Prices are all subject to change. 

Getting around.  The hotel is in Cologne city centre, opposite the cathedral. The centre of Cologne can be easily explored on foot. Schildergasse, Hohe Strasse and Breite Strasse are pedestrianised and most main attractions are located around the Altstadt, on the left bank of the Rhine. A transferable ticket (VRS) entitles travellers to use all transport facilities, including the underground, buses, trams, and RB (RegionalBahn), RE (RegionalExpress) and S (S-Bahn) trains. Train-only tickets can also be purchased. Both types of tickets can be purchased from vending machines at the city's train stations. Only VRS tickets can be bought from tram, bus and underground stops. Valet parking is available at the hotel (surcharge).
